Hi All, I was electrocuted May '99 and have many physical problems because of it. Burns, no use of left hand, balance and walking deficit, etc. I am scheduled to go to the Mensana Clinic at the end of March '02 for a 24 day stay. I am looking forward to the visit but would to hear from anyone that has been before. What can I expect as far as the facility goes, any exercise area, room/bathing size, is the food good, do they keep you busy with appointments or do you sit around a lot, etc.? I am a little worried about the stairs and getting to my room. My walking and balance are not that good (use a rolling walker) and I am concerned about falling. Can you leave in the evenings to go to Oriole games (my favorite team). A lot of questions I know, but I like to be prepared. Have a great day everyone!

After reading through some of the other posts I have found some info and answers to my questions. Thanks. Jim

Erin here.....

Jim.......Mensana is a wondrous place.....

I call it my sanctuary.....sometimes I just go sit during the better weather months.....and even in the blustery months......watching the sunset at Mensana is a glorious site....

On the practical side of Mensana.....it is a sanctuary and a source of information regarding chronic pain and it's affect on us....and you will learn so much about your condition and how it affects you short term and long term........
Both inpatients and outpatients can learn about their conditions and absorb it at their own rate.....Most places don't offer much information to us about our conditions..but Mensana is a font of knowledge, information, wisdom and compassion....so as you grapple with all the information......you are offered emotional support....

I tell a lot of my friends who have travelled across the country to see doc to make use of all of all the different methods..... modalities that Mensana has to offer........Doc has put together an awesome program......you don't really realize it until you are fully immersed in the process..it's more then a program...it's a never ending process.....you must totally throw yourself and all that is within you ...the pain, the suffering, the joys, the laughter. In other words, you must immerse the essence of yourself into the program in order to find yourself and who you are with the pain....so that you can acquire and maintain the best results for yourself...and your family....i.e....loved ones.....
I hope I have explained this in a manner that you can understand..
If not, simply put, as my mother used to say....
You only get out of life what you put into it..

luv and hugs
Erin
