WHAT IS A LEINS?

By Anonymous on Saturday, June 16, 2001 - 07:36 am:

leins are agreements signed by both parties, usually an attny, also signs these , assuring the party they will get paid what is owed them upon any settlement, winnings, so forth! these are supposed to be binding but not when one changes things mid stream of treatment!

We have been forced to use liens for automobilie accident cases and personal injury cases, due to a small group of former patients, these few patients have taken advantage of our trust in them. They came to us for medical care when they had no insurance or other resources to pay for their care--and they agreed to pay their medical bills when the case was settled. However, when they received their settlement, they refused to pay the bills or declared bankruptcy to avoid payment. Unfortunately, we now have to ask everyone to sign these liens in order to protect ourselves from a few dishonest people.

it is a shame that a few dishonest people had to do that...but i believe also that an orginal lein signed should be honored also not what you all require now!!!! also we do have insurance but your facility does not accept insurance (for room and board) so is that possibly why all these bills accumulate??

please explain to me , if someone got a settlement or there case settled and they had an attny which most do, how could they not pay and how could they file for bankruptcy if they got a settlement???

By Anonymous on Friday, June 29, 2001 - 07:53 pm:
