A valuable resource for case managers, patient advocates, and other
health care providers:
RxAssist, sponsored by Volunteers in Health Care (VIH), provides
information on how to access the patient assistance programs of more
than 100 pharmaceutical manufacturers. These programs usually offer
a limited supply of free prescription medication to eligible patients.
You can search RxAssist based on the following variables:
* Company name
* Brand drug name
* Generic Name
* Drug therapy class (example: asthma, hyperthyroid, antibiotic)
Application forms are available on-line for the 40+ programs that
allow their forms to be copied freely. Contact information is
provided for those companies that do not allow their forms to
be copied. RxAssist is continuously updated. All companies in the
database are contacted at least once every 4 months to inquire
about any changes. VIH also routinely adds new programs and companies
to RxAssist.
Also available on the RxAssist site is software for patient and
medication tracking. RxAssist Plus, Version 2.1, is designed to
meet the needs of free clinics and other community-based health care
programs serving the uninsured. The software is free to non-profit
organizations, governmental agencies, and individual clinicians who
care for the uninsured. RxAssist Plus allows you to store and track
information on patients, visits, providers and more. It also helps
you locate information on pharmaceutical company patient assistance
programs, fill out application letters and forms necessary to obtain
medications for uninsured patients, and track the application
process. There are also several "canned" reports that provide
summary statistics on your clients.
Funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Volunteers in Health
Care is a one-of-a-kind national resource center for organizations
and clinicians caring for the uninsured. The RxAssist resources
can be found at: http://www.rxassist.org/
